Sterling Fire & Safety Services Ltd. is listed by the Underwriters' Laboratories of Canada (U.L.C.) and authorized to "Inspect, Test and Service Fire Alarm Systems in compliance with the requirements established by U.L.C."
U.L.C. is an independent, not-for-profit organization incorporated in 1920 by letters patent issued by the Canadian government. It maintains and operates laboratories and a certification service for the examination, testing, and classification of devices, constructions, materials, and systems to determine their relation to life, fire and property hazards. Underwriters' Laboratories of Canada also develops and publishes standards, classifications, and specifications for products having a bearing on fire, accident or property hazards.
U.L.C. is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada as a Certification Organization, a Testing Organization, a Quality Registration Organization and a Standards Development Organization under the National Standards System of Canada.
The Listings of Underwriters' Laboratories' of Canada are recognized generally across Canada by federal, provincial, and municipal authorities, insurance agencies, and others. Out listing requires and ensures that:
- we have a service agreement specifying all the required services,
- we be responsible for the periodic testing, maintenance, and repair of the fire alarm system, as well as keeping the records respecting these activities,
- we respond to (emergency) service calls within 24 hours,
- any necessary repair work commence within this time period and be continued until completion, and
- all our work be subject to countercheck field inspections by U.L.C. representatives.
All fire alarm systems must be inspected, tested, and maintained in conformance with CAN/ULC-S536, as required by the B.C. Fire Code.
